Day 19 & 20 ( 26 - 27 Jul) - Niagara Falls

Day 19
Tues 26 July 2016

Our First day in Niagara we visited the Eri Canal

Candy and Gary read about the Eri Canal

Started on a tour of the Canadian side of the falls

Tour guide explaining what we will do and when to be back at the bus.

They gave us Rain Coats to wear to minimize how wet you get.

Rainbows are very common on sunny days

I guess we know what is at the end of the rainbow here!

Went to the top of the Skylon tower (Canadian Side) in late afternoon and stayed till it got dark so we could see the falls when they turned on the lights.

Some facts.....

  • 3,160 tons of water flows over Niagara Falls every second. This accounts for 75,750 gallons of water per second over the American and Bridal Veil Falls and 681,750 gallons per second over the Horseshoe Falls.
  • The water falls at 32 feet per second over the falls, hitting the base of the falls with 280 tons of force at the American and Bridal Veil Falls and 2,509 tons of force at the Horseshoe Falls.

  • Four of the five Great Lakes drain into the Niagara River, (Superior, Michigan, Huron and Erie) before emptying into Lake Ontario. These five Great Lakes make up almost one-fifth of the world's fresh water supply.

We got to walk up these stairs and get right next to the Falls
These wood platforms and stairs are replaced every year.

I really had trouble keeping my Camera dry getting these pictures
