Days 34 - 39 (Wed - Mon) 10 - 15 Aug - Driving and trip into NY.

Day 34
Wed 10 Aug
(Our Anniversary - 48 yrs)

Woke up this morning and it was raining. Had to disconnect services and connect to truck in the rain. Tried to work during the lulls. Still got wet.  Left Mystic campground at 8:30 am and we stopped at Walmart to pick up a few things.  It was a small Walmart (not a superstore) so we didn't find everything.  Took I-95 most all the way through Connecticut and New York and past Newark, NJ. To I-195.  The Interstate 95 through New York was a Toll Road and cost us $29.75. Got on to the I-195 near Trenton, NJ and headed E. toward Jackson and the Indian Rock Campground. This would be our staging area for day trips to NY, Penn, and NJ shores.  Today was our 48th anniversary so Garnet fixed spagetti dinner with desert and gave us a small anniversary gift (taffy pieces in a Mystic Pizza bag). We then did some planning for our trip into NY tomorrow.

Day 35
Thu 11 Aug 16

Drove to the Train Station in Hamilton, NJ (Near Trenton, NJ) and Road the Amtrack Train to Penn Station in NY.  From there we rode the subway to lower NY to see the 9-11 memorial and museum. We had lunch and toured the memorial and museum. We were in there about 3 hours and still didn't see it all. We walked over to the Hudson River and got a view of the Statue of Liberty.  Walked back to a subway station and rode to Time Square.  Walked around Time Square, had a drink in McDonalds and walked 5 or 6 blocks back to Penn Station. Then we waited for the next train back to Hamilton, NJ. The Ride each way was just a little over an hour.  We arrived in Hamilton around 9:00 pm and decided to stop for dinner at Cracker Barrel Restaurant. Got back to the RV Park just after 11:00pm. Watched a little TV till 12:00 pm and went to bed.

Our walk from Penn Station to the 9-11 Memorial

This Buildings address is "One World Trade Center" and is one of
seven buildings build at the site of the old world trade center.

This is one of the pools in the 911 Memorial Plaza
Set within the footprints of the original Twin Towers, each pool is approximately 1-acre in size. The names of every person who perished in the terror attacks of February 26, 1993 & September 11, 2001 are honored in bronze around the twin Memorial pools.

Steel pillers that still remain from the World Trade Center.

We were not allowed to take pictures throughout most of the memorial so I only took a few.  The National September 11 Memorial Museum is decicated to those who lost their lives on that day and it hopes to ensure, once again, that the world will "Never Forget".
This is the Ball at the top of a Time Square Bldg. It is waiting to be raised and dropped again on New Years Eve of 2017

We passed Madison Square Garden on our way back
to Penn Station.

Day 36
Fri 12 Aug 16

Slept in till 8:00 am and had breakfast. We were going to get together with everyone and decide what to do today but we all must have decided to take a day to catch up and relax.  We relaxed and at 12:00 noon went to the office to watch the US women’s soccer Olympic quarter final. This was the first time since they began playing that they didn’t get to the gold round in the olympics. They have 4 gold medals from the "now" 6 times in the olympics. Went back to 5th wheel to relax and I worked on the computer while Candy Read. Very relaxing day!

Day 37
Sat 13 Aug 16

Today we got up and decided to not go to Philadelphia. We thought we could leave a day early and break up the next leg of our trip into two legs, but we needed to ask for reimbursed for the one day we would not stay here at Indian Rock Campground. Went to the Jersey Shores and saw the boardwalk and had lunch. We used GPS to find a Walmart to get some things for dinner.  It ended up not having much in the way of groceries.  Had to find another store.  Back at the campground we checked and found they would reimburse us for one day.  So we picked a spot half way and made another reservation at Bar Harbor RV Park in Abington, Delaware. Candy fixed Tuna Casserole, Salad and Cake for desert for our group dinner.

They Charged $8.00 to use the beach so we did not go down to the water.

Day 38
Sun 14 Aug 16

Got up at 8:00 am and took our time getting ready.  Had a group meeting at 9:30 am to make more reservations for future stops.  Made reservations for Gettysburg, Charlottesville, and Norfolk, VA.  We left at 11:45 am and this day being a short drive, we needed to kill some time (Check in at the next stop wasn’t until 4:00 pm) we found a Camping World store and picked up a few things for the 5th wheel.  Stopped at Burger King for Lunch and Drove to Bar Harbor RV Park in Abington, Delaware, arriving at about 5:30pm.  Candy fed everyone leftover Tuna and Salad for dinner.  Shortly after that the thunder, lightning and rain started.  A tree branch in the park fell and took out our power for the night. It was 98 deg. And 100% humidity and now we had no power to run our air conditioning.  When the rain stopped we opened all the windows and raised all the blinds.  We sat in our RV and watched the Lightning show till midnight or so.  We only had about 60 or 70 mi to travel tomorrow so we planned to sleep in and leave just before the checkout time of Noon.

This is where we had the lightning storm and lost power for the night.  This was the picture I took the next morning.

Candy and Judy looking for interesting things to do.

Day 39
Mon 15 Aug 16
Slept in due to being up late with the thunder and lightning. Packed up and left about 11:30 am.  Stopped for as and headed for our next stop at Cherry Hill RV Park in College, MD.  Arrived at 1:30 pm and checked in to get our RV sites assigned. Went to a 4:00 pm presentation on how to best get around Washington DC and see everything we want to see. We bought our subway cards at $2 each for Seniors. Garnet decided to cook the group dinner and fixed turkey stroganoff, biscuits, corn and Oreo ice cream bars for desert. Had to walk to their RV in a down pour with lightning and thunder.  After dinner we planned what we would do tomorrow and the time we would meet in the morning.
