Days 47 & 48 (Tue & Wed 23-24 Aug) Gettysburg Battelfield and Amish Country

Day 47
Tue 23 Aug 16

The Tour of the Gettysburg Battlefield was covered with monuments and cannon

placed at locations where the fighting took place.  It took around 6 hours for us to
drive the entire loop and listen to a CD explaining all the major stops.

The Gettysburg Batttlefield is much larger than

most people expect, more than 10,000 acres, and it is

criss-crossed by more than 40 miles of battlefield

avenues. There are more than 1,450 monuments,

markers and plaques on the field.

This is called Devil's Den and Slaughter Pen because of the large number of Confederate Soldiers that died here.
A role playing Union Soldier positioned at one of the monuments to answer questions and tell about his part in the war.

Day 48
Wed 24 Aug 16

Gary stayed behind and I drove the rest of us to Lancaster, PA and a little further to Bird-in-Hand and Intercourse, PA.  Went to Quilt Shops for Judy and Garnet. Had Lunch and drove through the country side to see the Amish Farms.

Can't pass up a good flower picture!

Amish Farms as far as we could see....
The Amish do not drive cars and are not connected to the power grid.
This is how they dry the laundry.

  1. I would really like to see the Amish area. Just to watch them ride in their buggies. Cara
